West Point police investigating fatal shooting

The West Point Police Department is investigating a Monday evening shooting on Lowe Street that left one male victim dead.

The WPPD said officers were dispatched at approximately 5:35 p.m. to Lowe Street for a shooting incident.

The department said in a press release that one male is deceased from this incident, but did not release the identity of the victim.

Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter was on scene at the time of this article’s publication and could not provide the victim’s identity.

According to Clay County Jail records, no one had been booked into the county jail on charges relating to the incident.

Late Monday night, the WPPD said the investigation was ongoing and no further information was released before press time.
