Area residents have until Friday to sign up for free smoke alarm installation and home safety inspection later this month.

The American Red Cross, Clay County Emergency Management, West Point Fire Department, volunteer fire departments across the county and police and sheriff’s department have teamed up for the service March 23, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

But people must sign up in advance by 5 p.m. March 9.

Residents can call the EMA office at 662-494-2088 or e-mail twilliams@wpnet.org.

On March 23, volunteers will install up to two smoke alarms, review home fire evacuation plans, discuss fire prevention in the home and review safety practices in case of tornadoes.
The smoke alarms are free.
