Rivalries heat up prep football

After all three Clay County teams secured winning performances in the second week of action, the tilts on the gridirons heat up substantially this Friday night.
The West Point Green Wave, who defeated season-opening opponent Louisville 46-7 last week, squares off against long-time nemesis Starkville High. The Yellowjackets (1-1), coming off a 20-7 victory over Oxford in the "Little Egg Bowl," won the 2014 meeting 34-3 over West Point in Starkville. The annual rivalry kicks off at 7 p.m. at McCallister Field on the campus of West Point High School.
In Mississippi Association of Independent School (MAIS) action, the Oak Hill Academy Raiders, who have won their first two games by a combined 91-7, square off against the Heritage Academy Patriots in the Battle of Highway 50. Oak Hill hopes to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Patriots (1-1) in a game that kicks off at 7 p.m. in Columbus.
The Hebron Christian Eagles (1-1) battle the Delta Academy Raiders (2-0) in a MAIS 8-man game at 7 p.m. in Marks. Hebron picked up its first win of the season over Delta Streets Academy in a 60-24 decision in Pheba.
