A child in the West Point community, Lila Usry, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November. She and her family have been at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota since her diagnosis and will be there for the duration of her treatments. Usry still has more chemo treatments scheduled for the next few months.

The medical expense of these treatments is astronomical and helping with those is one way to show support.

There have been several fundraisers for Usry. There is an account with Bancorp South where individuals can make donations, at youcaring.com #bebravelila, or supporters can buy Braveletes.

Tim “Mookie” Wilson and Jeremy Klutts sponsored “Lilapalooza” in March to help raise money for Usry’s continuing treatment. Now, Prairie Wildlife and Mossy Oak are sponsoring “Shoot for a Cure,” from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, at Prairie Wildlife.

“It was Jimmy Bryan’s idea to hold a fundraiser for Lila Usry,” Natasha Coggins, of fice administrator for Prairie Wildlife, said. “He thought it would be a fun way to raise money for the Usry’s. This is such a small community that everyone can relate to what it would be like to have a child needing cancer treatment.”

Gary’s Pawn and Gun is donating clays and shells for the shoot.

Coggins said they can’t take anymore sponsorships with the logos, but they are still accepting sponsorships and teams to participate in the shoot.

“We ask that our shooters bring their own guns,” Coggins said. “Firearms need to be 12 and 20 gauge for shooting skeet. We encourage men and women who enjoy skeet shooting to join the teams and participate.”

Coggins asked that those who would like to come and watch the competitive shooting please come between 7 and 8 a.m. to sign in and get a ride to the tower.

“Spectators pay $25 to have lunch with us and enjoy the shooting,” Coggins said. “We would like to have as many spectators as possible to help us raise money for Lila.”
