What does Mossy Oak Golf Course east of West Point have in common with such famed championship courses as Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Harbor Town, Whistling Straits and Erin Hills?

They all are in the top 28 of Golfweek’s 2019 Ultimate Guide: Top 200 Resort Courses.

Mossy Oak just east of West Point in Clay County is 28th on the list of 200 and has some pretty good company, including Erin Hills, which is 27th, Harbortown at 18th, Spyglass at 11th Whistling Straits at 5th and Pebble Beach at number 1.

The golf magazine uses a rating system from its golf pros and analysts to compile the list. Mossy Oak came in with an average rating of 6.98 to earn the 28th ranking. Pebble Beach, the famed course on the Monterey Peninsula in California, had an average rating of 8.87.

And while Mossy Oak is in good company in the top 30, it’s ahead of a number of well-known courses like The Greenbrier in West Virginia, Trump National, Bay Hill, PGA West, Innisbrook, and Troon.

“We’re pretty proud of that rating. We’ve got some pretty good company,” Course Director Chris Jester said of the Gulfweed listing.

That’s especially true since Mossy Oak has climbed to 28th in less than three years since it opened.

The Preserve in Vancleave, Miss., cracks the top 100 at 81st.
