An area man is behind bars on the felony charge of simple assault on a police officer and three counts of burglary from a vehicle.

West Point Police Chief Avery Cook confirmed the arrest of 22-year-old Demarcus Darnnell White, and said more charges would likely come later in the case.

He said more details would be released after the investigation was complete. He also said White turned himself in following the incident.

White is currently being held in the Clay County Jail with bond set at $10,000.

Cook also said it was not White’s first run-in with the law, as he had a Mississippi Department of Corrections hold, and was on probation at the time of his arrest.
