Lady Wave crush Bulldogs in Thursday twin bill

The West Point Green Wave softball team saw a strong couple of outings Thursday at home against the visiting Aberdeen Bulldogs in doubleheader action.

Game 1: West Point 10, Aberdeen 1

In the first game of the double header, Aberdeen managed to get on the board in the game’s first half inning, but it would be all Green Wave from there as the home team put up five runs in the first two innings to close the door on the Bulldogs after two and half innings.

Brittany Bensend started on the mound for the Green Wave and gave up her only run of the game after a defensive error allowed a Bulldog runner to cross the plate with one out in the first.

The Green Wave’s first run of the game came when Taylor Brownlee scored on.a passed ball in the bottom of the first.

West Point would plate five runs before the Bulldogs could muster an out in the first inning.

Despite a flurry of walks, Ella Portera and Taylor Tucker both managed a RBI each in the first game.

Game 2: West Point 15, Aberdeen 0

The second game would prove even more frustrating for the visiting Bulldogs, who committed six errors in the contest and failed to get a run on the board.

Sara Dexter came out firing off the mound in the first inning, striking out the side to open the game.

Chamiya Brownlee then led off the game for the Green Wave with a single and would later score on when Summer Smith singled on a ground ball to center field.

Brittany Bensend turned the heat up even more on the Bulldogs with an inside the park home run in the bottom of the first to score Hannah Meyers and extend the Greenies’ lead to 7-0.

The Green Wave then closed out the bottom of the first when Moody singled on a pop fly to score Brownlee.

Dexter would go on to cruise through the second inning, striking out two more Bulldog batters before a seven-run bottom of the second put the game out of reach.

Dexter finished the game throwing three innings with seven strikeouts on 33 pitches and no walks.
