Khalaf Plaza shopping center adds first business

Construction on West Point’s newest shopping center, located in front of Walmart on Highway 45, was mostly complete last year, but in that time, the building remained vacant. That looks to change in the coming weeks as Star Nails and Spa looks to open a location in the building.
Work on the building, to be called Khalaf Plaza, began in June 2014, and owner Jim Khalaf said there had been many delays in bringing businesses to the shopping center.
“We’re trying to get some leases, but some of the ones we’d been talking to backed out,” Khalaf said. “We have the nail shop about to open, and we’re working with different businesses than we originally planned.”
He said he was now having trouble acquiring and internet service provider for the shopping center, which had held up Star Nails and Spa from opening.
“I never thought we’d have this problem,” Khalaf said. “AT&T and Comcast can’t get internet to us. Comcast said they could run a line to the building for $54,000, and we’d been talking to AT&T for eight months. We’re working with C Spire now to see what we can do.”
