Mississippi State University Extension Service in Clay County has many activities planned for the month of September, with most being free or for a small fee for supplies. All activities take place at the MSUES office.

"We have a Cooking and Baking Group meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 10," Ray said. "We will be working with one of the most versatile ingredients in the kitchen, the egg."

The class is geared toward helping people learn how to take something so simple and make a meal out of it.

"Please call and let us know if you plan to attend,” Ray said. "The meeting is open to anyone who wants to learn more about being a home cook."

The Sew and Sew Crafters will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.

"This month we want to see what you are working on right now," Ray said. "The group agreed we would see what everyone is doing before we focus on a new topic. Everything that can be created with thread, yarn and fabric. We are open to everyone who would like to participate."

Toward the end of the month, there will be a Congestion Relief Workshop offered. Fall allergy season will be here soon, and the MSUES will plans to make shower melts and snore gel to help relieve stopped up heads.

"Please join us Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.,” Ray said. "There is a $5 fee for supplies and you need to call our office and reserve a spot by Sept. 20."

Ray is working on some other programs for the fall, such as Food Safety at Home or Walk-A-Weigh. She would like input to find out which is more interesting to the community.

In addition to all the fun and informative activities for the adults, Ray works with the young people of Clay County 4-H, as well.

"We need adult volunteers for 4-H," Ray said. "We will have an adult volunteer meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16."

This meeting is open to any adult interested in being a volunteer, or to learn what 4-H is all about.

"We are having a STEAM workshop at 4 p.m. Sept. 9," Ray said. "This is open to all 4-H members, they can bring a friend. Cloverbuds and potential Cloverbuds may come but they must be accompanied by an adult."

Exhibit Day for 4-H is Wednesday, Sept. 11. Drop off times are between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. Items may be picked up at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.

"Each 4-H'er may submit up to 10 items for judging," Ray said. "All eligible blue ribbon items will be sent to compete in the State Fair in October."

Items that have been made this year that qualify are: pin cushions, drawstring bags, sculptures, pointillism drawings, recycled pumpkin crafts, and stencil projects. Exhibits are open to 4-H members ages 5 - 18, according to Ray.
