Dill shines again for Oak Hill during double overtime loss

Oak Hill Academy head coach Chris Craven was at a loss for words Friday night about the performance of sophomore quarterback Cameron Dill.

Dill had just put forth another outstanding performance with 313 yards passing, 55 more on the ground and five total touchdowns.

Even though the Raiders lost a tough 48-42 to the Tunica Academy Blue Devils in double overtime, Craven said that doesn’t take away from the solid outing for Dill.

“Words can’t describe what he does for our offense, and how much he means to our team,” Craven said. “The kid has a great arm... and feet, but his best characteristic is poise. He is made for these moments. He is doing tremendously good for a sophomore.”

Everything wasn’t perfect for Dill though, as he started the game with a interception right in the hands of a Blue Devil defender. John Carter then carried the football to the end zone to give the Devils an early 8-0 lead. After a pair of three and outs by the defense, Dill led the Raiders down field, which was capped off with a 5-yard touchdown run from the sophomore to tie the game.

Tunica didn’t wait long to respond though as the next snap was taken 65 yards by Kenyan Garner for a score. That put the Devils up 16-8. After a turnover on downs from the Raiders, the Blue Devils were led by junior running back John Carter who scored a touchdown, giving them a huge 22-8 lead closing in on the end of the first half.

With 1 minute left in the half, the football was placed back in Dill’s hands and the Raiders offense immediately went to work. Multiple 15 yard passes later, the Raider quarterback ran it in for a score making the game 22-14 at half.

After Oak Hill and Tunica traded drives that ended up nowhere, Jake Wade marched the Blue Devils down the field for the first score of the second half. Being down 28-14, the Raiders needed to answer and they did exactly that with a Jake Glusenkamp score. After a Tunica drive stalled by penalties, Oak Hill was led by Dill again and a 7-yard pass to Branden Stevenson tied the game at 28. But, The Blue Devils didn’t back down and Jake Wade led them to a score with a 1-yard touchdown to go up with 54 seconds left.

All hope seemed to be lost in the Oak Hill sideline, but Dill came up huge with a 64-yard drive that ended with another Stevenson touchdown reception. It tied the game at 34-34 and sent the game into overtime.

The two teams traded scores in the first overtime. The Blue Devils were once again led by Carter with a 10-yard score, then Dill responded with a 10-yard pass to senior Jonah Caskey.

In the second overtime, Oak Hill fumbled at the goal line with its first possession. Tunica then got a chance of its own from the 10-yard line. After two big defensive stops by the Raiders and a huge false start penalty, the Devils were hit with a third and 15, but Wade hit a wide open receiver to win the game.

A heartbreak for Oak Hill made their record 1-3 with a match coming up for the Raiders at Marshall Academy next week.

There was only one message Craven had for his Raiders after the game.

“Flip over the cards,” Craven said. “It’s a new week with a new opponent.”
