The Downtown and Around Town Christmas Open House is from 1 p.m. -until 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, with downtown merchants giving an early preview of their Christmas decorations and merchandise.

Blue Deer Candles is joining the Christmas Open House for the first time.

"We are so excited to be part of Christmas Open House," Leslie Earnest, owner of Blue Deer Candles said. "It will give people the opportunity to come in and see what we have to offer, who haven't had the chance to come by yet."

There will be sale items in the shop, just in time for holiday gift-giving and decorating. The new fall and Christmas candle scents will be available, along with other favorites.

"We will have candles, candle wax melts, Pat Gavin Pottery with our candles poured into them," Earnest said. "We have Felicity Potter and McCarty Pottery. We have hand-made jewelry by Dorothy Northern, beaded jewelry by Deana Windham, hand-crafted goat milk soaps. We have something for everyone."

Candles make great teacher and secret Santa gifts, according to Earnest.

"We will be adding to our soap line before Christmas," Ben Earnest, owner of Blue Deer, said. "We have a new candle fragrance, Hill Country Kudzu, that we are very excited about bringing to our shop."
Growth Alliance Director Lisa Klutts is excited to have the new shops to join in the Christmas Open House.

"Another idea for lunch after church Sunday, is North Mississippi Medical Center," Klutts said. "The chef is great and so is the food. The gift shop will also be open Sunday. Christmas Open House is for the whole community so support our locally-owned restaurants that will be open. Magnolia's at the Ritz and Main Street Market will be open for lunch."

The West Point/Clay County Arts Council is sponsoring an art exhibit by Cathy Pilkinton at 2 p.m. at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts. It is a perfect time during the Christmas Open House to check out the Living Color Exhibit.

"Christmas Open House is a great opportunity to get a jump on holiday shopping," Klutts said. "And support our local businesses at the same time. Whether shopping for someone on your list, deciding on holiday decorating or picking up something special for yourself, its nice to not have to leave town to get things done."

Sally Kate Winters Family Services will have its 2018 Christmas ornaments and tiles, with a few of the T-shirts, for sale outside of Petal Pushers. These were designed by Petal Pushers owner Scott Reed.
