With Thanksgiving a little over a week away and Christmas not far behind, the Bryan Public Library has activities coming up and wanted to announce the days the library will be closed.

"The library will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Tuesday, Dec. 3 for Thanksgiving," Valerie Hargrove, circulation librarian, said. "Then we have some activities for children and adults in December."

The library will be closing at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, for the West Point Christmas Parade.

"We will close early," Hargrove said. "So people who want to park here at the library can. Those of us who work here will be able to come and enjoy the parade with our families, as well."

The Luncheon with Books series for December will be Thursday, Dec. 1.

April Hopkins, the children's services librarian was excited about a special visitor who is coming from the North Pole.

"Santa will be here at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19," Hopkins said. "For Story Time with Santa. He will be reading a book about how he got his job as Santa Claus."

Santa will be handing out candy canes and allowing parents to take pictures of their children with him.

"We have invited Santa to come after school this year," Hopkins said. "So children of all ages can come and meet the Jolly ol' Elf. The young and the young at heart are welcome to come and sit in his lap and have a photo taken."

The Book Club is meeting at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, to discuss "Educated" by Tara Westover.

"Everyone is invited to join us for the Book Club," Priscilla Ivy, the public service librarian, said. "Refreshments are provided. After we talk about 'Educated,’ we will announce that for December. I'm already excited for the December Books Club. We can read our favorite Christmas books. Everyone has a favorite Christmas movie and I imagine, also a Christmas book."

This will give those who participate the chance to share a book about Christmas that they enjoy.

"Hopefully, it will make us want to read that book for ourselves," Ivy said. "The idea of the Book Club was to get everyone out of their comfort zones and try reading something different."

Hargrove said the library will be closed for Christmas and New Years, Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Jan. 2.

"Please keep that in mind when checking out books and movies for the holidays," said Youth Services Librarian Jayme Evans. "Patrons may want to pick out some extra books or check out some movies if the children are home or visiting."
