A fake bomb threat Friday afternoon disrupted busy Highway 45 Alternate South when West Point Police and emergency responders had to shut down a business and part of the highway.

The call of a bomb at the Kentucky Fried Chicken came directly to 9-1-1 dispatchers at about 3 p.m. Police and firefighters evacuated the building and closed the highway to through traffic while awaiting bomb dogs from Mississippi State University. They arrived and quickly cleared the building.

The business re-opened at about 4 p.m. and traffic returned to normal.

Police tracked the original call through 9-1-1, but are continuing to work on the recording and the number from which the call was made, Police Chief Avery Cook said Saturday evening.
