Petal Pushers was voted Best Floral Shop and Old Waverly was voted Best Golf Course by Mississippi Magazine readers. Mississippi Magazine Editor Melanie Ward said the 2017 Best of Mississippi awards were based on an online ballot, and the winners were selected solely on the magazine readers’ votes.

Petal Pushers Owner Scott Reed said he and the Petal Pushers staff were very excited to be voted Best Floral Shop.

“We’re very excited and humbled that our customers, friends and the readers of Mississippi Magazine would vote so we could receive this honor,” Reed said.

Reed said Petal Pushers offered floral arrangements, as well as gifts and home and garden decor.

“We are a one stop shop for any special occasion,” Scott said.

According to Mississippi Magazine, “For those searching for aisle decor for weddings, centerpieces for receptions, bouquets for weddings, arrangements, or wraps for loved ones, Petal Pushers is the place to be. With a shopping experience a bit out of the ordinary, this is the go-to florist.”

Reed said he believed the customer service and staff at Petal Pushers set the store apart from other floral shops in the state.

“One of the things we work hard to do is provide the quality products and service our customers want,” Reed said. Head Golf Professional at Old Waverly Greg Flannagan said the Southern hospitality and full range of amenities set Old Waverly apart from other golf courses in the state.

Flannagan said Old Waverly, which was founded in 1988, is playable by all skill level of golfers, and their membership is a wide variety of people.

“With a view that captures the essence of the Scottish Highlands, Old Waverly has earned the reputation of being one of America’s greatest golf courses,” Mississippi Magazine said. “With its 18-hole course and 7,088 yards of rolling hills and manicured greenery, golfers have to step up their game to champion this elegant course. Whether lodging, dining, or considering a membership, make Old Waverly the number one choice.”

Flannagan said he and the other staff at Old Waverly were proud and thankful to be considered for the Best Golf Course award.

“Any time you get that recognition, it makes us proud to work there,” he said. “I am incredibly thankful to those who voted. Jimmy MacPherson and Brad Suggs get all the credit for the work they do to keep the course in great shape.”
