The West Point Green Wave softball team saw district opponent Saltillo take the lead early and never look back in a 9-2 home loss on Thursday.

Sarah Dexter managed seven innings on the mound for the Green Wave, allowing 11 hits and nine runs, while fanning three Saltillo batters.

The visiting Tigers would get on the board first in the first inning, scoring two runs off an error and then getting another across to round out the first.

The Green Wave’s bats would remain quiet until the fifth, and the Tigers would score in all but two innings of the game.

Down by eight runs, West Point’s sole offensive burst came in the bottom of the fifth, when Tonia Randle led off the inning with a single.

Brittany Bensend followed up the at bat with a walk and Marquesha Starks would then single to drive in Randle and Bensend.

The Green Wave would finish with six hits on the night, while the Tigers turned its 11 hits into nine runs.

The loss brought the Lady Wave’s record to 4-10.

West Point will play at home Tuesday, April 10 against Lafayette.
