Bad first quarter dooms Lady Raiders

Staff Writer

A talented Winston Academy girls basketball team blew out to a 16-2 first quarter lead and went on to win every quarter on the way to a 45-24 win Saturday over homesteading Oak Hill Academy.

The dismal first quarter did the Lady raiders in as Rachel McLain’s bucket were their only points. Winston Academy features two players who have committed to college scholarships and a third who has a track scholarship.

Oak Hill’s offense picked up in the last three quarters but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.

McLain, a junior, finished with 16 points while sophomore Carley Wooten added seven and Reagan Freeman, the team’s lone senior, added a free throw.

Bailey Wood, a junior college signee, led Winston Academy with 18 points.
