45th annual St. Jude Open Bass Classic set for holiday weekend

Every Memorial Day weekend, fishermen gather at Sardis Lake to see who can catch the biggest bass; however, what makes this tournament unique is the meaning behind it. The participants are fishing to help save children’s lives through the St. Jude Open Bass Classic. This Memorial Day weekend marks the 45th annual St. Jude Bass Classic, and MaxxSouth Broadband is proud to be a sponsor.
The St. Jude Open Bass Classic is held yearly to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s lifesaving work. The St. Jude Bass Classic has raised over $4 million for the hospital. More than $253,000 was raised last year, and St. Jude wishes to generate more this year.
“St. Jude is a world-renowned research hospital that treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases,” said Rick Ferrall, MaxxSouth regional general manager. “Which is why the team at MaxxSouth is honored to contribute to an event with such an important cause.”
MaxxSouth is promoting the bass classic by broadcasting a 30-second video and still image advertisements. The goal is to increase participation and donations to the tournament and help the event grow and become more well-known. The donation is valued at over $12,000.
“This is the first year we have had TV advertising for the St. Jude Bass Classic, which is huge because we haven’t been able to break through to other areas,” said Rick Lesley, event organizer of the St. Jude Open Bass Classic. “MaxxSouth approaching us and offering to donate the promotion is a great blessing. We hope this relationship continues to grow as it will only help the children at St. Jude.”
Check-in for the 45th annual St. Jude Bass Classic is Saturday, May 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The bass fishing tournament starts at daylight on Sunday, May 28, which is around 5:40 a.m. The competition ends around 2:00 p.m., and all those participating must be at the judging area no later than 3:00 p.m.
The prize for first place is $5,000, second place is $3,000 and third place is $2,000. The top four to 40 winners will receive cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $100, along with other prizes. A grand attendance prize of a fully rigged War Eagle 761 renegade boat with 115 HP Yamaha out board will be given, donated by War Eagle Boats, Yamaha and Performance Marine LLC. All prizes are donations from corporate sponsors.
The tournament includes live music from Crossing Dixie between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., a live auction, where all proceeds go to St. Jude, and MO’s Southwestern Grill.
